Dust, Dust Everywhere – Where Does It Come From?

For some individuals, dusting the house is akin to having a wisdom tooth pulled without the benefit of anesthesia.

If this sounds familiar, take heart. There are more than a few who share this particular dislike for dusting than you imagine.

The trick with dusting is to avoid it in the first place. Dust comes from airborne particles in the home. It may be interesting to note that 50% of dust comes from dead skin cells. The rest comes from air that seeps in through drafty windows and doors and also from pet dander.

Dusting an entire house becomes less of an onerous task when it is done frequently. The rate of frequency depends on the home’s location. Today most homes are temperature controlled. Still, that doesn’t mean there will be no dust collection or need for dust removal.

If your house is located in a windward area, you can expect to dust more frequently even if you keep windows and doors closed.

Change Your Dusting Attitude

Dusting an entire house sounds like a massive job. However, it can be minimized by creating a dusting strategy. This is how then professionals at Quick Job do it.

Start by evaluating where dust is likely to collect. For example, a fireplace can be a big source of dust even though dust may not be visible. Keep the fireplace free of ashes so that dust doesn’t accumulate.

The way to change your dusting attitude is to dust smarter, not harder. Dusting smarter means plotting and strategizing a dusting method that fits into your regular house cleaning chores.

Top to Bottom Dusting

It makes sense to dust from top down. That way dust particles can be picked up with a dust mop or vacuum on rugs and bare floors.

Invest in a duster that has an extension pole that can reach ceiling fans, over wall hangings and don’t forget to dust ceilings and corners of walls. This is Level One of tips to dust the entire house by dusting smarter instead of harder.

The types of dusters you choose should have micro fiber heads that attract dust particles without releasing it into the air.

You may need several types of dusters. Short handled ones are great for dusting occasional tables, framed photos, lampshades and lamps, knick knacks and objet d’art.

You might also want a duster that fits into narrow spaces. This type of duster is usually about 18 inches long and about 2 inches wide. It can also be used to dust between the rungs of chairs, blinds and bookcases as well as the tops of drapes and curtains.

To sanitize while you dust, you may want to invest in an antibacterial spray that can be applied to your dusters. This is also a good way to reduce allergens in dusty air, as well as preventing pollen borne particles from collecting in your house.

This is Level Two of tips to dust the entire house by dusting smarter instead of harder.

The Final Dusting Frontier – The Floors

Now that you have completed full upper and mid level dusting, it is time to tend to the dust on floors. While the vacuum is sufficient for deep cleaning, in order to reduce dust in the air stream in the house, the floors should be dusted with a microfiber dust mop under cabinets, furniture and along the edges of walls.

This is Level Three of tips to dust the entire house by dusting smarter, efficiently and thoroughly.

Is There a Better Way?

For many individuals, dust increases allergic reactions and causes irritations to eyes, ears, nose, throat and lungs. Dusting may also be labor intensive for those with major and/or minor physical debilitations.

Other individuals are career oriented and their careers simply do not allow for much free time to tend to household chores like dusting.

The idea of coming home from work at the end of a busy day and dusting may be too exhausting. However, delaying dusting only leads to build up of dust and dusting harder, not smarter.

There is a better way to deal with dust. Choose a reputable, reliable cleaning service that can make short work of dusting in your home.

Dusting Smarter Without the Work

If you’ve never considered hiring a cleaning service to do your dusting, you will be pleasantly surprised at how your house will sparkle.

No more white glove tests to see if tables and lamps are dusty. No more tell tale cob webs that seem to appear on ceilings just when the company arrives.

Plus the real savings is not having to buy an arsenal of dust mops, brooms, wands and sanitizing sprays that you need to store safely to protect children and pets.

The very best tip to dust the entire house is to let your cleaning service do it for you. If cleaning dust is a problem, contact the professionals. Your house will thank you.
