If you are passionate about gaming, then you certainly give a lot of thought into the features of smartphones before buying. To facilitate good gaming experience on a phone, one needs to have a smartphone with an impressive display, along with excellent sound quality. So, gamers are always seeking smartphones which can deliver high performance, long-lasting battery, and a good visual experience.

The two most important features when selecting smartphones for gaming are RAM and processor. Both of them together determine the performance of  your phone. Gamers are often left stumped while making a critical decision: do they choose a smartphone with higher RAM size or a faster processor? While both are equally important for smartphone performance, it is important to know their roles, and what they do.

RAM or Random Access Memory

RAM acts as temporary storage, and stores memory of existing applications so that the processor can quickly and easily access it. Mobile phones which have higher RAM size offer better multitasking experience, and the applications are known to work smoothly and efficiently.

Gamers need to host heavy gaming apps on their phones. They often have to switch between apps as well. Having a smartphone with higher RAM size will facilitate these functions. It will also reduce the likeliness of getting storage errors.

What would be the Right Choice for Gamers?

Gamers, before buying smartphones from either Indian mobile companies or international players, should keep the following things in mind.

  • For smooth gaming purposes, you should opt for at least a 6GB RAM phone so that you can shift between apps with ease.
  • The more cores a processor has, the faster it processes the information, and the more responsive the phone becomes. Keep note of the screen size as well when deciding the processor. With more screen size, you need more power. Even the resolution has to be taken into account.

RAM and Processor

RAMs and processors work together. A smartphone with higher RAM size but slow processor will take a significant amount of time to process inputs, but can easily shift between different apps and functions. On the other hand, a smartphone with a faster processor and low RAM size is more powerful and can handle heavier apps, but there will be significant lag while switching between the apps.

Processor

A processor determines how powerful the smartphone is, so it is like an engine. It processes the inputs which are received by the smartphone. Therefore, the faster the processor, the more responsive the phone becomes. Smartphones today use SoCs such as Qualcomm Snapdragon, MediaTek Helio, Samsung Exynos, A-series Bionic chipsets and HiSilicon Kirin to name a few.

A good display is needed by gamers, and as the screen size increases, there needs to be a faster processor to process all the inputs.

Remember, the smartphone must have both – a fast processor, and a decent sized RAM. More RAM does not make the phone as a whole run faster; it needs to be complemented with a faster processor to deliver the best gaming experience. A smartphone with a decent RAM size as a fast processor will ensure that the phone does not lag, and offers optimal gaming experience.
